I can almost hear the grunts. The eye rolls. The sighs. I know this title lands like a cliché – and honestly, I get it. Because somewhere along the line, greatness became exhausting. It started sounding like pressure, something that needs a spotlight, a strict routine, a sweaty face on Instagram, and possibly a six-pack. No wonder so many people quietly opt out.
And yet, it’s a bit ironic. Because we so easily call something or someone “great”. “That was a great class!” “You look great!” “This is a great song!” But when it comes to personal greatness, we struggle to claim it. The tough thing about greatness, is that it always seems to be in such short supply. It feels like chasing the mirage that appears on the horizon, and just as you arrive at the oasis, it disappears.
…There are countless books and seminars designed to help us grow in greatness, only to leave us with a metaphorical belly ache and sugar crash once we temporarily achieve an externally created definition of greatness. And still, we crave it. We all do.
According to ChatGPT, more than 1000 people search “how to be great” each month. Yet, many are looking for the “secrets to success”, that in many ways, do not exist.
As James Clear so accurately states in his top-selling book, “Atomic Habits”: “It’s easy to get bogged down trying to find the optimal plan for change; the fastest way to lose weight, the best program to build muscle. We are so focused on figuring out the best approach that we never start taking action …”
…We’ve been taught that greatness belongs to the disciplined, the gifted, the genetically blessed. We daily read and hear, that to become great, we need to have passion and commitment, patience, persistence, and perseverance. But these things always feels so abstract, so idealistic, so out of reach. So hard.
Bu what if we’ve misunderstood greatness all along? What if greatness isn’t loud? What if it doesn’t hurt? What if it doesn’t need a breakdown before a breakthrough? What if greatness is …reachable?
This year, I desperately want to suggest a different definition for greatness, and that’s exactly why the slogan for our studio in 2026 is: “Mirna’s Aerobic Studio, your gateway to greatness!” There’s nothing I desire more than, that at the end of this year, our members will feel great in themselves. Really, and truly great.
As a fitness instructor, I have had the privilege of watching real people for years. Women with jobs, families, aches, setbacks, doubts, bad weeks, and very human habits. We have hosted 31 Fitness Challenges at our studio, and I’ve learned this: Greatness lives in ordinary, boring choices, repeated quietly.
It’s the member who comes to class, even, or rather, especially, when she feels rock-bottom. The one who doesn’t finish every set, but doesn’t leave, either. The one that starts again on a Wednesday, instead of waiting for a proper Monday.
We all like big, dramatic decisions: “This is the year everything changes.” But greatness rarely announces itself like that. It whispers: “Try again.” Again – even after quitting yesterday. Again, after a bad night’s sleep. Again, after a missed week. Again, after disappointment.
That’s greatness! Not a finish line you collapse at; just a way to keep going. Not flashy. Not perfect. Not to punish yourself into change. Just consistent enough to matter, one small, doable choice at a time.
Greatness also doesn’t need drama. We’ve been sold the idea that greatness must hurt. That, if it’s not hard, it’s not working … But what if greatness is calm? Quiet? Steady? What if greatness looks like discipline without punishment? Consistency, without chaos …?
There is no “magic moment” when you become great, there’s simply a path, a personal journey of doing the boring work.
Greatness Isn’t a peak – It’s a practice. And yes, it does ask for patience. That’s why we encourage our members to take part in all three our Fitness Challenges during the year, and our overall winners are selected from those participants at the end of the year. Because anyone can be motivated in January, with new shoes, fresh motivation, and big promises, but greatness only shows up in July, or November … When the novelty fades.
Greatness is a long game. It’s staying power. It’s not the 20th workout – it’s the 120th one that counts. By then it’s called a habit. Greatness doesn’t rush. It trusts accumulation. It knows small deposits compound. It says: “Today didn’t change everything. But it mattered.”
To me, the most special aspect of greatness is that it’s not subject to age. Greatness doesn’t imply “younger”. Or someday. Or “if only I started earlier.” It can be obtained in any season of your life. In this body. With this wisdom. And this capability.
Greatness is also personal, and that’s the whole point. It might be pain-free movement, mental strength, showing up despite fear, giving up alcohol, losing weight, or simply finishing what you start. And this is amazing, because if everyone’s definition is different, comparison loses its power.
When does greatness begin? When you say: “I’m worth taking care of – even on ordinary days.” Greatness happens when what you say, what you plan, and what you actually do, start to line up, more often than not.
Not perfectly. Just honestly. Choosing progress over comfort. One more rep, one braver choice, one uncomfortable truth … Not fixing yourself. Not punishing your body. Not proving your worth …Not trying to be heroic. Just intentional.
Think about this for a second: If greatness were only for the extraordinary, gyms would be empty and life would be unbearable. Luckily, greatness is far more inclusive than that. You don’t have to be flashy to be formidable …
Greatness doesn’t need permission. It’s available to anyone willing to show up – imperfectly, but repeatedly.
In 2026, greatness doesn’t need a brand-new you. It needs a kinder, braver version of the one you already are.
And maybe that’s the real secret: Greatness is not about doing more. It’s about quitting less. And, it doesn’t have to be exhausting! Greatness is not a mirage you chase until you reach it. It’s something you practice until it becomes who you are.
If you decide today to stop chasing some polished version of greatness, and start recognising it in the small, sweaty, sincere moments of your life – you’re already closer to greatness than you think.
That’s a story worth living. And the best part? You’re already living it.
