What a privilege to welcome you to 2020 at Mirna’s Aerobic Studio with these inspiring words by the English novelist Arnold Bennet:

“The chief beauty about time is that you cannot waste it in advance.  The next year, the next day, the next hour are lying ready for you, as perfect, as unspoiled, as if you had never wasted or misapplied a single moment in all your life. You can turn over a new leaf every hour if you choose.”

2020 is our studio’s 12th year, and this milestone was made possible by your loyal support!  We look forward to a partnership of continuing success and promise to do our best to maintain the ultimate fitness environment, while assisting you in reaching your personal goals.  2020 will be what you choose it to be.  I urge you to hold yourself accountable, to assess where you are and once again decide where you would like to be.

…Good luck with all our members who have started new jobs in 2020, and all those whose kids have joined new schools or left home for University.  Linda, hoop jy herstel sommer baie vinnig na jou nekoperasie, Marieta, ons is so jammer om te hoor van jou mammie se afsterwe, en ons dink ook weereens aan jou, Martie, met jou pappie se siekbed en afsterwe.  Najma, hoop jy is vinnig weer gesond, en ons is ook jammer om te hoor dat jou skoonsus haar kankerstryd verloor het, Rethia.  Baie sterkte met jou voorbereiding vir die Comrades, Salmi, en ons is trots op jou dat jy kwalifiseer het.  Elsa, baie welkom terug na jul 8-weke toer in Afrika, ons kan nie wag om al jou stories te hoor nie.  Annebie, baie geluk met Nicole se pragtige matriekuitslae, en Clariz, ook baie geluk aan jou, trots op jou.

As you all know, our New Year Challenge is starting on Monday, the 3rd of February and we are looking forward to these 6 weeks of signing in, chasing goals, improving body stats and reaching personal bests.  You can still enter, simply contact Mirna.

Please take not that for the whole 6 weeks, Challenge members will have first option on all props for each class, including step benches, bars, dumbbells, Rebounders, Ripstix, Hoolas etc, until 10 minutes before the starting time of the class.  However, you are not allowed to keep a bench or a Rebounder or a spot for a friend, and all classes work on a first come first served basis.

If you`re interested in trying out a Bootybarre or Rhythm Pilates class, contact Mirna.  Body assessments on our InBody machine are available at R50 for members, and during the Challenge, 2 assessments are included in the Challenge fee for Challenge members.  Bookings available on the counter in the studio.

We are now officially a proud reseller of the beautiful Sweatgear pants, and all the pants on the rail in the studio are for sale.  You can also order any of the pants or shirts on the official Sweatgear website through Mirna – our in-studio prices are cheaper than those on the website.

Very soon our on-line Shop will also be up and running on our website – watch this space, and thank you, Mari, for all your support in that regard as well.

Please make sure that your membership fees for February are settled before Friday the 7th of February in order to avoid paying re-joining fee, and please remember that the fees are R350 from February for non-Bootybarre members.

It’s an honour and privilege to welcome back Edrei, Sarita, Elsje and Dedré, our very competent and enthusiastic instructors – we are looking forward to the valuable part you are going to play in our studio in 2020, and I am so thankful to have you.

…So, maybe you started off 2020 with some hefty fitness resolutions, maybe not?  The question is, how are you going to stay motivated in February?  Here are a few tips:

  • Instead of thinking about the results all the time, focus your attention on the lifestyle you`d like to have, with the results being a positive outcome of that lifestyle.
  • Embrace the process – have fun, be patient and pat yourself on the back for every small victory.
  • Instead of focusing on a tough workout, shift the way you view it – the adrenaline rush afterwards, the stunning music, the glow and the satisfaction of knowing you have given your all.

May 2020 be a wonderful year, filled with promise, hope, love, happiness and success, and on those days when working out is last on your priority list, remember these words by Dr Bernard Levinson from the book “Still mind, strong heart”:

“All work and no exercise make you dull and unattractive.  People love people with vitality.  And the richest source of vitality is exercise….”

…In the end, all we have are our experiences.  Have the courage to do what you want to do today.

Tomorrow may be too late.
