According to statistics, 80% of people give up on their New Year`s resolutions by mid-February. Perhaps it was the champagne talking. Maybe it was your husband who made a joke about your weight…whatever it was, it may have seemed a good idea at the time to promise yourself to give up red wine, cut down on sugar and to stay out of the kitchen after bed time…Everything went perfectly okay, for about two weeks…then life happened again…
Yes, it`s a fact – where only 8% of people actually achieve those things they set out to accomplish in the new year, a whopping 92% find themselves in a similar position to where they had been 365 days earlier. The reality is that unless the desire to be successful is stronger than our false sense of comfort, we are not likely to create any permanent change. In her book “The have it all woman”, best-selling author Susan Sly states: “We, humans, are much like sharks who must keep moving in order to
survive. The shark must have water running over its gills to breathe – we must feel a sense of progress in order to feel fulfilled…”
And now it`s that month again. The jokes have been made – yes, according to statistics, the new year’s crowd in the gym have left the building… Either they haven’t got the results they wanted, or they were simply overwhelmed again by the rat race of 2019… But not in OUR studio: Our New Year Challenge kicked off last Friday and 106 participants have already entered! (Yes, it’s not too late, you can still join our 6 week-Challenge. Just send me a WhatsApp) Our studio has come alive
again, and as always, it`s an amazing, happy place.

Don’t miss out on our Valentine’s Rebound class on Monday the 11th of February! Wear a red workout top and join us for this exciting fitness blast where most of our Rebound instructors are present! Limited Rebounders available – remember it’s first come first served! We are also wearing red on Thursday the 14th of February – celebrating the day of love, friendship and affection in style! (No members have stepped forward to claim the free month of February – so a free member or two will be “crowned” during that week…) Please remember that our membership fees are R320 from February and R370 for members who pay for apparatus plus aerobics. All membership fees are due before the 7th of each month.
So, when it comes to continuing our fitness journey in February, the question isn’t whether we have a desire to experience progress, the question is whether we can be tough enough to stay the course as we adapt to the change required to live into the new habits that will support our goal outcomes. When in doubt, don’t diet – rather remember the golden rule: The number one factor in fat loss is kilojoules out vs
kilojoules in…
A huge thank you to my team for 2019 – Elanza, Elsje, Anel, Sarita, Doempie and Cecile – I`m so proud to have you, thank you for the high standard of your workouts each week and thank you for setting the example by joining our New Year Challenge too.
Thank you, Mari Kruger for our brand-new website. My weekly Blog will also be available on the website… thank you for everyone who follows it so diligently – it keeps me inspired.
May you all have a fit and fabulous February and remember – we`re not here forever. Life is so short. Don’t be so hard on yourself all the time. Applaude yourself for every small step of progress and keep these words of JK Rowling in mind when times get tough:
“It is our choices that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities. And, as is a tale, so is life: not how long it is, but how good it is, that is what matters.”
Yours in fitness
